If you have a SharePoint library (or file storage in any other system) with hundreds of DOC, XLS and PPT files, you may want to convert them all to modern extensions. Since Microsoft developed new formats, sooner or later everyone faces a necessity to convert DOC to DOCX, XLS to XLSX and PPT to PPTX.
Benefits are obvious, useful features were added and files weigh less so it’s easier to use them online. Now, some software already doesn’t support older formats. And if you don’t want your colleagues or clients to go crazy over the pop-up windows suggesting to convert DOC, XLS, PPT files to the newer formats, take care to do it before sending e-mails with attachments or sharing those files.
There is a simple way how you can easily convert older formats of Microsoft Office documents into modern ones in bulk with the help of Microsoft Flow.
You can use conversion actions from Plumsail Documents connector:
With the help of these actions, you can create a Flow, which will query all the files with older format from your library. For example, from a SharePoint Document library. Then it will iterate through documents and convert them to a new format using those actions, and finally will save files into a target folder.
We prepared a ready-to-use example of Microsoft Flow for you. See the documentation article for more information.
Your Flow may look like this:
